When electronic components are to be placed on a circuit board, surface mounting is often the preferred solution. With the so-called surface-mounted device (SMD), a housing consisting of an LED package with an integrated LED chip is fused to the circuit board via a solderable contact surface.

SMD LEDs are used in the variants “low power” to “high power”. Both versions can be realized in a wide variety of colors and shapes as well as with a variety of radiation characteristics.

If you choose surface mount technology (SMT) for your LED application, you will particularly benefit from the small dimensions of the components, their high energy efficiency and good heat dissipation. SMD LEDs can also be assembled automatically, which saves effort and costs in production.
